High Heel? How tall is TOO MUCH?

During the current recession high heels are pushing the extreme.  Runways, red carpets, fashion magazines, and even prom goers are pushing the how high can you go envelope.
Celebrities such as Lady Gaga wore a version of the above 12 inch Alexander McQueen for the "Bad Romance" video and Tina Frey opened her SNL monologue with over the top stilettos to solidify this craze.

We love some of the styling but at what point is this just a fashion mistake? 5, 7, 9, or 12 inch heels!
